Residents are reminded not to push snow onto the roads when clearing driveways. If snow that is pushed back at the foot of the driveway spills out onto the road, please ensure that it is cleaned up for the safety of motorists. That snow, especially when it turns to packed ice, creates slippery patches for motorists.
As well, residents are reminded not to push snow onto a fire hydrant. Covering a fire hydrant with snow is a serious safety hazard that can significantly delay emergency responders during a fire. When firefighters arrive at a scene, they often need to locate and connect to the nearest hydrant within seconds; buried, hidden, or hard-to-access hydrants can waste critical time.
The Town’s Public Works Department will clear fire hydrants as time permits. Residents are encouraged to keep the hydrant in their area clear of snow as the house you help save may be your own.
