It is with pleasure and enthusiasm that I write this message to welcome you to our website. It has been created to show how positive a community Marystown is.
After you’ve reviewed it, and become virtually familiar with Marystown, I hope you will discover our town to be the vibrant, attractive and progressive place that makes it one of the most ideal locations in Eastern Canada to work, experience and live.
Marystown has a lot to offer, whether you are a business person looking for new investment opportunities, a tourist looking for that ‘hidden gem’ or a new resident looking to lay down roots. Our town has a large pool of skilled workers making it an ideal location to set up new industry. It has a world-class off-shore heavy industrial construction site, namely the Kiewit Cow Head facility. In the past, this facility has played an important role in off-shore oil development in Newfoundland and Labrador. And in previous years, Marystown was directly engaged in ship construction and ship repair.
Currently under construction is the Grieg Seafood salmon hatchery. Once complete, it will be the largest salmon hatchery in Canada. The new aquaculture industry provides an entirely brand-new industrial footprint for Marystown and the region as a whole. Aquaculture will no doubt become one of our largest employers and help stabilize the economy for the region.
Also, unrelated to aquaculture, Marbase Marystown Inc. is moving forward with the construction of the first lumpfish hatchery in Canada.
Marystown has excellent recreational facilities including an arena, Track & Field Complex, beautiful walking trails, softball fields, tennis courts and much more. Our state-of-the-art Recreation Complex is operated by the YMCA and includes a year-round swimming pool, walking track, fitness room, gymnasium and a community room. Other recreational amenities are located just minutes outside of Marystown including a 9-hole golf course in Frenchman’s Cove. Be sure to visit the ‘Explore the Region’ section of our website for everything that not only Marystown, but the region as whole, has to offer.
We have a great selection of hotel rooms, restaurants, box/chain stores and a very strong retail sector. The Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre hospital in Burin is only minutes away and provides a wide spectrum of services.
Located in Marystown and Burin, you will find a modern K-12 education system that provides French immersion as well as a post-secondary system, including the College of North Atlantic in Burin and Keyin College in Marystown.
Please take the time to browse through our website to find out more about the wonderful community we call home.
