Are you planning to run for Council? There are two ways you can be nominated.
The first is to present yourself in person at the Town Hall on Nomination Day on September 4, 2025, any time between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. and complete a “Nomination and Declaration of Qualification by Candidate” form. You must have a proposer and seconder present with you when you sign acceptance of your nomination.
If you are unable to be present on Nomination Day, your proposer and seconder can complete and sign a ” Nomination Form for Candidates Unable to be Present on Nomination Day”.
Both forms require a non-refundable deposit of $10.00 and both forms can be found on our website at https://marystown.ca/…/muni…/information-for-candidates/ (How do I get nominated for Council?).
To qualify as a candidate for the election, you must be:
* a qualified voter in the municipality in which you are seeking nomination;
* not in arrears of taxes or other charges payable to the Town of Marystown; and
* ordinarily a resident in the municipality, or in an area that on election day is part of the municipality, for at least 30 days before the commencement of the nomination period (August 5th)
Please note that when it comes to not being in arrears, this includes the Town’s equal payment plan – any balance remaining for 2025 must be paid off! If you’ve recently had water and sewer connected to your residence and you owe a balance, it must be paid off! All balances owing to the Town would constitute an arrears and must be paid off.
