Academic Island is pleased to welcome Brazilian high school students to study in Newfoundland and Labrador from September 2026 to January 2027. Caring Host Families in the John Burke High School and MCHS area are needed to welcome one or more of these students. Students will be both male and female.
What’s included:
• A monthly stipend of $900 (CAD) to help with room, board and utilities
• Guidance and support from Academic Island’s Homestay team
• Orientation & resources for both students and host families
• Students attend John Burke High School or MCHS and integrate into daily family life
What a Host Family does:
• Provide a private, furnished bedroom
• Share meals (breakfast, dinner and perhaps lunch depending on schedule)
• Include the student in family life, conversation and local culture
• Help them adjust to NL life (transportation, school routines, social norms)
• Adhere to safety, respect and communication standards
