The Town has been advised by the Department of Forestry and Wildlife that there is an issue with residents feeding foxes and they are becoming habituated to the point where they no longer fear people and are approaching them with ease.
Foxes are wild animals and do not require human intervention when it comes to finding food. Fed foxes are more likely to frequent roads where they can be struck by a car and killed. Human food is not healthy for foxes and feeding them disrupts the natural predator-prey relationship.
The Department will follow up on catching and relocating the affected foxes however, if they are not successful, the only option will be to destroy the foxes.
For the sake of the foxes, PLEASE DO NOT FEED THEM – the best way to admire and show appreciation for our wildlife is from an appropriate distance.
