The Town partnered with the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board to purchase 40 composting bins, which are now available to residents at a subsidized rate of $44.99 plus HST per bin. These bins are the tumbler style of compost bins similar to the one pictured, which are designed to make it easier to turn the compost by spinning the drum a few times every week.
Organic waste can account for as much as 40% of residential waste. Composting can reduce waste sent to landfills, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reduce pollution and reduce your own need for chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
If you are interested in purchasing a bin, please call Alje Mitchell, CAO, at 279-1661 ext. 227, or Deena Hooper, Administrative Support Clerk, at 279-1661 ext. 230. Residents are advised to pay for their bins in person at the Town Hall as you will be required to bring your receipt to the Town Depot in order to pick up your bin. Bins are sold on a first come, first served basis (no reservations).
