Conservation and Restoration Technician – Model Ship Gallery

This is a temporary full-time, non- unionized position, which reports directly to the Director of Recreation & Community Services.

The Successful candidate for the position of Conservation and Restoration Technician will be responsible for ensuring the ship models and other displays are clean and well maintained. This will also include performing extensive repair and cleaning work on the models and other artifacts.

Some experience in basic plumbing, painting and repair would be a very valuable asset, as the gallery space itself will need occasional maintenance.

There are a wide variety of ship models from numerous countries and time periods as well as a broad selection of artwork and other maritime artifacts. There will be an ongoing need for repair work on the ships, so experience with model making, especially model ship building, would be a definite asset.

Many of the ships we receive are sailing vessels, with extensive standing and running rigging. A familiarity with making and repairing such rigging would be very desirable.

A knowledge of naval and maritime history would be needed, as would some experience with art and art prints.

Experience with commercial fishing, the Merchant Marine, Navy or Coast Guard service would be very desirable.

The Conservation and Restoration Technicians would be expected to report to the gallery committee on restoration projects and gallery operations. Good communications skills, and an ability to interact well with visitors, would be a necessity.

Applications must be received on or before 3:00 pm, May 13th, 2022.
